No one knows their time

November 1, 2004
The day was November 1, 2004. The time was about 4:00 in the afternoon.  I was headed eastbound on the beltway following a dump truck going 65 mph in fairly heavy traffic.  Suddenly I noticed the back wheels of the dump truck were running over a large tire recap.  Instantaneously I knew I was going to have a problem.  Instinctively (or perhaps not) I turned the wheel ever so lightly to the left thinking the recap would simply pass underneath the center of my vehicle.   I was wrong.  Instead of the tire remaining on the road, the dump truck popped the tread up into the air.  A second later, the tire took out the passenger side headlight, and then whipped through the center of my windshield.  Half landed beside me on the console and the other half went over the roof.   If I had not moved over, the tire would have gone through my side at 65mph and hit me in the face and chest.  I would either have been killed or at least severely hurt.  I could have lost control of the vehicle.  Who knows what could have happened. As it was, I did not get a scratch on me.

Shaken to say the least, I managed to pull off to the side of the road and stop.  Sitting in my vehicle, I thought either God was trying to get my attention or the enemy was trying to take me out right then and there. Thank you God and Jesus for sending an angel to watch over me.

Not one of us knows at what moment our life on earth will end.  Instantaneously at that time, we will enter eternity at one of two locations.  Do not deceive yourself into thinking if you have not received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior that you can delay the most important decision you will ever make in your life.  Your life could end today the next time you get in your car.  Take care of this matter right now.  It is easy.  You can do in private right now right where you are.  If you feel uneasy or unsure right at this very moment, it is because the Holy Spirit is calling you right now.  Accept the invitation.  Give your life to Christ. Since no man knows the future, who can tell him what is to come?  Ecclesiastes 8:7

Moreover, no man knows when his hour will come: As fish are caught in a cruel net, or birds are taken in a snare, so men are trapped by evil times that fall unexpectedly upon them. Ecclesiastes 9:12

Update:

November 14, 2004

On November 14, my wife and I went to church and heard a prominent minister ask people to go on a missions trip to Africa.  We were unaware that this minister would be speaking at our church.  The problem was that it would cost us $3,000 per person to go.  We did not go up in the first invitation because we did not have the money.  The minister then extended the invitation a second time, adding that he often asks people who went on this trip before if any had the money when they made the decision and almost no one did.  My wife and I looked at each other, felt the tug of the Holy Spirit, and walked forward.  My wife later told me as a small child she had a dream about marrying a farmer, going to Africa and helping children.  Ironically, I officially have a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture.  I never did get into that business.  Apparently instead, I have become a farmer and sower of God’s word.

We did get to go to Africa the following spring.  The insurance money from the accident plus a few other people who invested their funds allowed us to make the trip.  You can bet that in appreciation of the Lord allowing us to go as well the generosity of those who invested their money in us, I was determined to give both the Lord and those people the best possible return on their investment.  We were honored to be the hands and feet of Christ as we worked for and ministered to dozens of God’s children.  We also had the privilege of either directly leading to or being instrumental in the leading of dozens of children to the Lord.  To hear the Lord’s Prayer in their native language, click here.  To witness dozens of children being led to the Lord, click here. We think the Lord was pleased at our service.  After our last day of work, a double rainbow followed us home.  To see this click here.
